I've watched my fair share of baking shows, and two of my favourites are MasterChef Australia: Dessert Masters and The Great British Bake Off. Don't get me wrong the Canadian Baking show is also great! It's one of the few Canadian shows that I do like as a Canadian herself.
Baking Show Reviews
Dessert Masters caters to intermediate bakers, incorporating fancy techniques while explaining them to the audience. It features renowned Australian bakers, attracting a professional crowd. I'd give it a solid 10/10. If you're passionate about baking, I highly recommend this show.
On the flip side, The Great British or Canadian Bake Off is perfect for beginners. You can have it on in the background, and it doesn't delve into overly intricate techniques. It focuses on generic methods and often provides helpful tips. Contestants are home bakers aspiring to turn their passion into a career or side business. It's a bit easier to follow, tailored for your average baker. I'd give this show a 9/10. If you're eager to dive into the world of baking or looking to kickstart your baking journey, this is the perfect show for you.
Chef's Table Dessert
Several years ago, Chef’s Table released a fantastic dessert season! This show features amazing chefs and pastry chefs, telling their stories in about 45 minutes. You’ll find great chefs like Massimo Bottura, Sean Brock, Christina Tosi and many more. My favorite was Christina Tosi from Milk Bar—her story was both inspiring and fun to watch.Makes me want to open up a bakery just like her. Where it is not too small, but not too big and can have multiple bakeries around the country. I’ve rewatched the season several times since. Now that I’m writing about it, I think I’ll put it on in the background again!
